Compliance
Section titled “Compliance”Am I compliant?
If your cash register has an active, certified TSE (or equivalent security system for your country), is issuing receipts for every transaction, and is registered with the relevant tax authority — you’re on the right track. For a full checklist, see the Compliance Guide.
What happens during a tax audit?
In Germany, a tax auditor (Kassennachschau) may visit your shop without advance notice. They’ll check that your TSE is active, review your transaction data, and may ask for DSFinV-K exports. Stay calm, cooperate, and see our Audit Prep playbook for detailed steps.
Do I need to register my cash register?
Yes, in most countries. In Germany, you must report your electronic cash register and TSE to the local tax office (Finanzamt). In Austria, registration happens through FinanzOnline. Your tax advisor can help you with the registration process.
What is a TSE?
A Technical Security System (TSE) is a certified device or cloud service that records and protects every transaction your cash register processes. It ensures your data hasn’t been tampered with. In Germany, every cash register must have one. The fiskaly cloud TSE is certified by the BSI and is valid until 2033.
What’s the difference between a hardware TSE and a cloud TSE?
A hardware TSE is a physical device (like a USB stick or SD card) attached to your register. A cloud TSE (like fiskaly’s) does the same job but runs in the cloud — no physical hardware needed. Cloud TSEs are easier to manage and update, and they work across multiple registers.
Is fiskaly’s cloud TSE certified?
Yes. The fiskaly cloud TSE is certified by the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) and is valid until 2033. Your POS provider integrates it into your system — you don’t need to manage the certification yourself.
Errors
Section titled “Errors”What do I do if I see an error on my register?
First, note down the error message and any code. Try restarting your register and checking your internet connection. If the error persists, contact your POS provider — they’re your first point of contact for technical issues. See our POS Error playbook for full steps.
My register says the TSE is unreachable — what now?
This usually means your internet connection is down or there’s a temporary service issue. Check your Wi-Fi or network cable, restart your router, and try again. Most POS systems can continue operating in offline mode while the connection is down. Your transactions will sync once the connection is restored.
I got a certificate expiry warning — is this urgent?
Yes, take it seriously. An expired certificate can prevent your register from signing transactions. Contact your POS provider right away — they’ll handle the renewal. See our Certificate Expiry playbook for what to do.
Can I keep selling if my register shows an error?
It depends on the error. Many errors don’t prevent you from processing sales — your POS system may have an offline or fallback mode. However, if your TSE is completely non-functional, you should resolve the issue as quickly as possible to stay compliant. Contact your POS provider for guidance specific to your situation.
Dashboard
Section titled “Dashboard”How do I access the fiskaly Dashboard?
Go to hub.fiskaly.com and log in with your credentials. The Dashboard lets you check your TSE status, view transaction data, and generate exports. If you don’t have login credentials, ask your POS provider — they may have set up your account during installation.
What can I do in the Dashboard?
The fiskaly Dashboard lets you monitor your TSE status, view transaction histories, generate and download DSFinV-K exports, and check certificate expiration dates. It’s a useful tool for staying on top of your compliance status without needing technical knowledge.
I can’t log in to the Dashboard — what should I do?
Try resetting your password on the login page. If that doesn’t work, contact your POS provider — they may need to verify your account or send you new credentials. You can also reach fiskaly support at support@fiskaly.com.
Exports
Section titled “Exports”What is a DSFinV-K export?
DSFinV-K (Digitale Schnittstelle der Finanzverwaltung für Kassensysteme) is a standardized data format used in Germany. It contains all your transaction data in a structure that the tax authorities can read and verify. You need to generate these exports regularly and especially at year-end.
How do I generate a DSFinV-K export?
You can usually generate exports directly from your POS system. If your system uses fiskaly, you can also create exports from the fiskaly Dashboard. Check with your POS provider for specific instructions for your setup.
How long do I need to keep my exports?
In Germany, you’re required to retain your fiscal data for 10 years. Store your exports securely — both on a local backup (USB drive) and in cloud storage if possible. Make sure they’re accessible if the tax office requests them.
