What does X-Scope-Identifier refer to?

The X-Scope-Identifier header plays a crucial role when creating a Subject. It defines the context (scope) in which the Subject is created, ensuring the API_KEY you are generating is connected to a specific Organization UNIT (formerly, Asset UNIT). 

Note: If this header is omitted, the following error message will be displayed:

"message": "The request functionality is not implemented yet. ['Subject::API_KEY' creation not supported for none 'Organization::UNIT' scopes]"

 

**Other use case **

Only applicable to legacy versions. Not relevant for the latest version (SIGN IT 2026-02-03). If you’re using the Groups structure (see article: SIGN IT – How to add an additional level to an Asset structure), set the X-Scope-Identifier header to the ID of the corresponding Asset GROUP. This ensures that the Assets UNIT are nested under the corresponding Asset GROUP.

Note: If this header is omitted, the Asset UNITwill be associated with the main organization (Asset TENANT) by default via the authorization token.
